2008-Apr-18 - Wildlife in my Backyard......
I tried to lure this ( obviously) married couple into my house with a piece of bread, but they were still too shy to cross my threshold. I hope they will return tomorrow! I also made a video.

2008-Jan-29 - What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander
.
Greylag Goose
On Saturday I got up earlier than I used to, for friends of mine were to collect me at 7.45 am. We are members of an organization called Nature Reserves which organizes a few times a year an excursion to those wildlife areas where we can see all kind of water birds like geese and ducks, but also herons, seagulls, swans and spoonbills. All in all we saw about 50 species. Of course we needed binoculars for the birds were often quite far away. We were on a coach and had to stay there, because the birds would fly away if we came to close to them. We learned a lot from our guide, who could see at a distance what kind of bird we could see. The photos I collected are from Google.

2008-Jan-9 - Cats and Dogs
.
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them.
This commandment is given with a purpose of course, for as long as there have been people on earth, they have created images of a god or even a couple of gods and godesses. The Romans and before them the Greek were known for their great amount of gods. They made sculptures of each of them. The father of gods and humans was supposed to be Zeus or Jupiter, his wife was Hera or Juno. They had lots of children, some of them gods others half-gods. Anyway religion was very complicated at the time.
Who was God ? Who is God? For every person God is slightly different. When I was a child I pictured God as an old man with a beard and of course he was white. Lateron I thought of God as a Person without sex, without race and colour, in one word: a man/ woman spirit, whose ideas are shown to us by people like Jesus, the Dalai Lama, Buddha, Gandhi, Martin Luther King and mother Theresa.
This morning I read in my newspaper a story of a cat and a dog who were discussing God. The dog says: "My boss feeds me and looks after me, so he must be God!"
The cat says:" I am being fed and looked after by humans, so I must be God!"
This is something I have to think about, for I believe that there are still humans who believe either of these two convictions.

2007-Dec-28 - Mind the giraffes....
Of all the animals in the zoo of Amersfoort the giraffes are the most nervous when fireworks is going on at New Year's Eve. It is even dangerous to their health. But this year the zoo attendants think to have had a brilliant idea: during a couple of days before New Year's Eve the giraffes hear music all day long, which seems to have a soothing effect on the animals. Every day the music is turned on a bit louder so that on New Year's Eve the music is louder than the noise of the fireworks.
Strangely enough are the other animals not afraid of the noise, though I know that my cats and my dog didn't know where to hide when the fireworks started. I can imagine that the big cats, such as lions, tigers and leopards, might be upset as well by all the noise. Another thing is: what kind of music do giraffes like? How did the zoo keepers find this out? Did they try various cd's out?
