I have a dream....

2008-Apr-23 - More Interesting Vehicles.

This bike can carry 4 little children. It looks smaller than it is!

Yesterday I was visiting an elderly couple of our church. It was a nice visit, but when I wanted to go home I noticed that the rear tyre of my bike was flat. There was nothing for it but to walk home with my bike on my hand. This morning I took it to the local bicycle repairer as I still cannot repair tyres myself. My husband always did that. Anyway I could fetch it at 5 o' clock. The bicycle shop was interesting enough, for apart from "normal" bicycles , there were tricycles and bikes like the one I wrote about two weeks ago. I asked the shopkeeper if I could take some photos and he said it was ok. There were several carrier tricycles. One of them was able to carry 4 children or two children and a big dog. A good idea to preserve our environment. An other bike was designed by the shopkeeper and could be used for commercials, which could be pasted on the boards at the back of the bike. On the whole these bikes were not expensive at all.

This tricycle was designed for commercial purposes.

At one time, when our four children were all small, and we had only one car, and I wanted to do my shopping before the week-end. I would load the youngest one who was around three at the time, into this cart ( it was called a load hog ) we had for yard work, had two big wheels and had to be balanced just right to make pushing easy. So the empty soda bottles would also go into the cart. The three older kids walked along beside me, at that time the street we had to travel did not have sidewalks. The first time the young man pushed the shopping cart out of the store, he asked where's the car, and I pointed to my cart. He about fell over laughing. But we were able to get a weeks supply of groceries into the cart and still have room for the youngest one to ride along. Had several older ladies ask if it was just for shopping, I explained it was to be used in the garden and yard. One day I was even able to help another lady get her three bags of groceries home, she and her daughter couldn't handle three and were sitting on the curb trying to figure out how to manage, and I said put them in the cart, we go right by your house.
The kids and I still talk about that time in our lives and get a chuckle from it.

Thanks Patty! Now that's interesting and very useful to have such a cart. I must confess I have everything on wheels : A big shoppingbag on wheels, a rucksack
and suitcases on wheels, and it suits me well. I don't want to carry heavy bags.

I thought I posted on this? It must have been on Vox...

Those are pretty cool, I would have loved to have one when my boys were young.

I told the bicycle repairer that so many women had wanted this kind of bike to take their children out. He said that these bikes are getting more and more popular in our country too.
